Abstract

1349684 Burning liquid wastes SOC ANON HEURTEY and ELF-UNION 19 April 1971 [20 April 1970] 9967/71 Heading F4B Liquid waste, liquid having waste combustible in suspension, or waste sludges are mixed with a liquid or gaseous substance which may be a fuel or a non-combustible dispersant to form a substantially homogeneous mixture which is atomized and fed to a combustion chamber so that burning material is recirculated along the chamber wall to the upstream end. The two constituents of the mixture are fed separately to a mixer 1, and the mixture is atomized with air supplied at 2a and supplied with additional air to a burner 2. The combustion chamber may be cylindrical, taper continually to a throat, or may have conical and cylindrical parts between the burner end and the constriction forming a throat 6. A damper 7 is adjustable in the throat 6, and the dimensions of the chamber are such as to establish the recirculatory vortex. The throat 6 leads to an expansion chamber 14 with a dust collecting chamber 14a. The mixture may be fed to a number of separate combustion chambers with open ends leading into a single secondary combustion chamber. The inner surface of the reaction chamber may be ridged or corrugated, or may have studs to increase heat transfer.
