Abstract

1337184 Incinerators INTERNATIONAL HYDRONICS CORP and COMBUSTION ENG Inc 19 April 1971 [31 March 1970] 25801/71 Heading F4B Incompletely combusted gases obtained by burning low grade solid and/or liquid waste in rotary furnace 30 equipped with an auxiliary burner 45, and completely combusted gases obtained by burning high grade liquid waste in a cyclone furnace (10, Fig. 1, not shown) tangentially supplied with preheated combustion air, are led into a refractory lined afterburner chamber through respective ducts 47, 49 to be turbulently mixed, the incompletely combusted gases being auto-ignited and completely combusted by the sensible heat of the completely combusted gases from duct 49. A solid or chequerbrick baffle wall 58 in the afterburner chamber enhances the turbulent mixing. The resultant gases are then discharged by a fan 82 to atmosphere via heat utilization section 60, spray section 64, scrubber section 70 and mist eliminator 76. Various types of liquid waste separately stored in a tank farm ( 110, Fig. 1, not shown), are proportionately mixed to provide the desired grade feed to the cyclone furnace. The feed to and operating conditions in the cyclone furnace may be automatically varied to continuously provide a gas stream having whatever sensible heat content is necessary to completely combust the gas stream from furnace 30, but preferably it is simply set to produce a gas stream having a sensible heat content greater than the maximum required to completely combusf the gas stream from the furnace 30. Preferred plant operating conditions and dimensions are disclosed. Waste materials which may be consumed include sludges, emulsions, resins, oils, greases, rubber, plastics, tars, solvents, monomers and sodium sulphahydrate.
