Abstract

993,157. Pulverulent and fluent fuel fired furnaces. L. & C. STEINMULLER G.m.b.H. March 22, 1962 [March 25, 1961], No. 11071/62. Heading F4B. A pulverulent fuel fired slag tap furnace has a main combustion chamber 1 fired by a pulverulent fuel burner 11 in the roof, and an auxiliary combustion chamber 3 extending above the top of the main chamber 1 and separated from it by a water tube wall 7 fired by a top burner 15 for gas or oil. The tubes of the wall 7 are continued to form a slag screen 6 between the outlet of the main combustion chamber 1 and a gas pass 5, which is separated from the auxiliary chamber 3 by a second tube wall 8. Further burners 12, which are used to start the furnace, are located in a chamber 2 forming a lateral extension of the lower part of the main combustion chamber 1. Since the combustion products from either of the burners 11 and 13 do not pass through the combustion chamber in which the other burner is located, there is no difficulty in lighting the auxiliary burners 13, and the burners are not damaged by radiation when they are not in use.
