Abstract
575,841. Heat-treatment furnaces. PRIEST, C. F. April 13, 1944, No. 6838. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii)] Heated air is circulated through a heattreatment furnace by a fan, the air being heated outside the treatment chamber by passing over tubular heat exchange apparatus before returning to the treatment chamber and combustion products from one or more combustion chambers being passed through flues in the side walls to the tubes of the heatexchange apparatus and returned to the flues for recirculation. Fig. 1 shows a treatment chamber 10 through which air is circulated by a fan 20. The air is forced through a perforated plate 17 through the chamber and passes through ports 23 to one or more air heating flues 21 in contact with one or more heating tubes 24 before returning to the fan. Burners 30 deliver to one or more combustion chambers 29 from which the gases flow through flues 28 to the tubes 24 and to flues 32 from which they are withdrawn by a fan 34 and delivered into a main 3S communicating by damper controlled passages 36 with the flues 28. Fresh air may be supplied to the air-heating flues 21 through passages 38 and ports 39.
