Abstract
350,294. Air heating furnaces. ELSWORTH, 0., Tyneside Foundry & Engineering Co., Skinner Burn Road, Low Elswick, Newcastle-on-Tyne. July 14, 1930, No. 21317. [Class 51 (ii).] In air heaters for drying apparatus, of the type comprising a nest of air heating tubes m disposed above a furnace a and connected at one end by a duct p to the inlet of the fan r the outlet or blast tube s of which communicates with the drying chamber, the combined cross-sectional area of the tubes is made materially less than (about one-third of) the cross-sectional area of the outlet tube of the fan. The air tubes m are rigidly secured to the tube plate f by nuts n and pass freely through holes in the plate e where they are open to the atmosphere, air being drawn through the tubes at high speed by the fan r. The internal surfaces of the tubes may be roughened or otherwise treated to cause eddying of the air. An adjustable cold air inlet t is provided for controlling the temperature of the air. An uptake h for the waste gases is connected by a horizontal or inclined rectangular passage j to a chimney k, cleaning doors being provided at u and v. Scrapers w loosely encircling the tubes are disposed between apertured plates y having draw rods z extending through the front plate e.
