Abstract

669,351. Heat-treatment furnaces. BIRLEC, Ltd., and HARRIS, J. July 27, 1950 [April 27, 1949], No. 11130/49. Class 51 (ii). In a convection furnace wherein the work undergoing treatment is heated by forced circulation of the furnace atmosphere gas through a closed system which includes the heat treatment chamber and a separate heating chamber where the atmosphere gas is heated, the load 4 is disposed within a tubular heat treatment chamber 1 which is surrounded by a heating chamber 2 containing successive groups of resistors 5 and 6 having a main thermocouple 7 disposed therebetween and the atmosphere gas is circulated by a fan 3, a second thermocouple 8 being disposed in the outlet from the fan. The main thermocouple 7 is adapted to control the power input to the resistor groups 5 and 6 so that the gas issuing from the group 5 is raised to a predetermined temperature and the increment of temperature increase is the same at both groups. The thermocouple 8 is adapted to control the power input to either or both resistor groups so that the atmosphere gas temperature does not exceed a given maximum.
