Abstract
1,118,832. Glass annealing furnaces. E. W. BOWMAN. 26 May, 1966, No. 23720/66. Heading F4B. In a glass annealing furnace having a tunnel chamber divided into a plurality of heating and cooling zones, A-H, by refractory walls 4 and 5 above and below an endless conveyer 8, each zone is independently controlled in response to thermocouples 40-47 in the zones A-H respectively. The first heating zone A has a radiation plate 21 and burners 20 above the conveyer and burners 23 below, further zones B, C and D having burners 54, 55 and 56 below the conveyer. Each of the zones B-G has a fan 34 drawing in air through a motorcontrolled adjustable louvre, and an exhaust stack 37 having a damper 38 therein. The final rapid cooling zone H has a plurality of fans 50, 50a and an adjustable door 28 with counterweights 29. Each of the zones E-G has an adjustable door 6 moved by a motor 7. Deflector plates and a centre wall baffle may be provided beneath the conveyer to, respectively deflect the circulating air and the combustion products. The thermo-couples are connected to limit switches in a control panel, which automatically control the operation according to a predetermined temperature curve.
