Abstract

400,496. Tunnel kilns. GIBBONS BROS., Ltd. and GIBBONS, W. E., Dibdale Works, Dudley, Worcestershire. March 13, 1933, No. 7495. [Class 51 (ii).] In a multiple track tunnel kiln the preheating- zone 11, or the cooling-zone 12, or both, are divided by longitudinal partitions 16, 18 into separate tunnels, which are formed with flat roofs to restrict the cross-sectional area of the space above the goods. The firing section is heated by burners and muffle flues as described in Specification 395,983, and the products of combustion are exhausted through flues 22 in the wall 16 of the preheating-zone, the inlet ports to these flues being set at a low level to reduce the tendency of the gases to flow along the upper part of the tunnels. Air heating flues 26, 28 are formed in the walls of the cooling-zone. When the kiln has more than two tracks the burners deliver directly into the firing zone.
