Abstract
241,067. Institut National des Mines, Lemaire, E., Connerade, E., and Mertens, E. Jan. 24, 1925. Tunnel ovens.-In a double track tunnel oven, more particularly adapted for low temperature distillation of coal &c., through which lines of charge receptacles are passed in opposite directions so that heat interchange is effected between freshly-charged and cooling materials, the two tracks are separated, in the main heating-zone only, by a wall 7 with heating-flues 12. In each side wall of the kiln are a set of horizontal airheating flues 8, a set of vertical combustion flues 9, and a set of horizontal waste gas flues 10, the order being reversed for the two sides, and in the sole beneath the two end zones are one or more air flues 11 and waste gas flues 13. In the partition wall 7 the vertical combustion flues 12 are divided into two equal groups, each communicating with one set of sole flues 11, 13. The material is preferably conveyed in suspended receptacles 17, and the heating is so controlled that at the end of the preheating zone the charge has attained a temperature of 350‹ C., while in the main heating-zone a temperature of 500‹ C. is maintained. The zones are defined by doors or dampers 25, 26, and the gases evolved in the end and middle zones of the oven are collected separately.
