396,122. Retort furnaces. DRAKES, Ltd., Halifax, and THOMPSON, M., Lyndene, Illingworth, near Halifax, Yorkshire. Feb. 8, 1932, No. 3652. [Class 51 (ii).] In a setting for vertical retorts divided by horizontal partitions into communicating compartments 3 through which flow the products. of combustion of producer gas, supplied at the base of the setting, and air supplied at a number of levels through the ports 5, the waste gases are exhausted through a dampered downcast flue 9 leading from the compartment 3b next below the uppermost compartment 3c. The lowermost section 3w of the setting may be cooled by the air supply admitted at 12, and the next sections may be heated solely by the sensible heat of the producer gas.
