Abstract

368,095. Coke ovens. MUELLER, W., 8A, Niederwallstrasse, Gleiwitz, Germany. March 30, 1931, No. 9560. [Class 51 (ii).] In a coke oven having vertical flues which are alternately fired from top and bottom the connections are such that upflow and downflow heating- walls alternate along the length of the battery. In the oven shown which is adapted for heating either by rich or lean gas, the two regenerators 3, 4, or 3a, 4a beneath each oven are connected to the lower ends of the flues 7 of the heating-wall on one side by ports 23, 24, and to the upper ends of the flues of the heating-wall on the other side by passages 25, 10, and 26, 11, the passages 10, 11 being formed in the partition walls between the vertical heating-flues. When operating with lean gas, and in the phase indicated by the arrows, gas is supplied to the regenerators 3 from the mains D, and air to the regenerators 4. Combustion is effected upwards in the two outer heating-walls shown, and downwards in the middle wall, and the waste gases pass off through the regenerators 3a, 4a. When operating with rich gas which is admitted through upper nozzles 16 and lower nozzles, supplied either from horizontal or vertical conduits 9a, X, all the regenerators are used for preheating air. An oven adapted for heating by rich gas is also described.
