Abstract
322,303. Mueller, W. Nov. 3, 1928. Addition to 308,994. Coke ovens.-The regenerator arrangements of the coke ovens described in the parent Specification are modified. In the "twin flued" oven shown in Figs. 1 and 2 there are two regenerator chambers 3, 4 or 3<a>, 4<a> beneath and extending the length of each oven, and each chamber 3, 4 is connected by ports 13, 14 to half the flues 7, 8, say the odd numbered flues, in the two adjacent heating-walls, while the even numbered flues are connected through ports 13<a>, 14<a> to the regenerators 3a, 4<a> under the adjacent ovens. Additional gas and air are supplied to the upper ends of the flues through passages 11, 12 in the partition walls between the flues. Rich gas may be supplied to the lower and upper ends respectively of the flues through conduits x and 16, and when this gas is used all the regenerator chambers are employed for heating air. In a modified form of apparatus (Figs. 4-6, not shown) the passages 11, 12 in the flue partitions are used in one phase as outlet flues for the waste gases, and in the other as inlet conduits for gas and air which burn downwardly in all the flues. In another modification (Figs. 7 and 8, not shown) each heating-wall contains two lines of flues, and the " twin " connection is made across the wall, instead of along its length as in Figs. 1 and 2.
