Coke ovens. - In an oven structure with vertical partitions in the heating - walls between the ovens, gas and air are supplied through a series of burner openings in say the even numbered partitions, and the products of combustion are withdrawn through a similar series of openings in the odd numbered ones. As shown in connexion with a coke oven in which the flow of gases through the heating-flues and regenerators is reversed at intervals, gas and air during one period are supplied respectively through the channels G, L in alternate partitions Q, while the burnt gases are withdrawn through the air flues L<1> of the adjacent partitions Q'. On reversal the air flues L of the walls Q become the outlet flues for the gases. Stiffening-pieces O may be provided between the walls of the heating-flues.
