Abstract

17,732. Jones, A. O. July 26. [Addition to 12,923/10.] Gaseous-fuel furnaces.-Consists in a modification of the method described in the parent Specification for heating vertical coke ovens. Superposed independent horizontal heating- flues 1 are arranged in the side walls only, and each flue communicates with vertical flues 6, 7 connected with reversible regenerators at the corresponding ends of the structure. Gas is supplied at opposite ends from nozzles 10, 11, employed alternately, and valves 8 are provided for cutting out any horizontal flue. A single series of superposed flues 1 may be employed for heating adjacent ovens.
