Gaseous - fuel furnaces. - In a vertical-flued coke oven in which the direction of flow of the heating-gases in the flues is reversed at intervals and in which the regenerators are arranged parallel to the ovens the flues of one heating-wall are connected to the flues of an adjacent heating-wall. As shown in connection with an oven which can be heated either by coke-oven gas supplied through conduits 30 and nozzles 32 at the base of the heating flues, or bv regeneratively-heated producer gas, the flues 17 of a heating-wall are in two groups, each of which occupies one half of the length of the wall. The flues of a group open at their upper ends into a collecting-flue 25, which tapers from the middle to the ends, and from the middle a cross connection 26 leads over the oven to a similar collecting-flue for the corresponding group in the adjacent heating-wall. The ovens are carried by strong supporting walls 13, 22 beneath the heating-walls and ovens respectively, and between these walls are regenerators G, H, divided to correspond with the flue groups in the heating- walls. The supply and exhaust connections are so made that the regenerators on opposite sides of the walls 13 operate in the same phase. When cokeoven gas is used for firing, all the regenerators are used for heating air, or half may be used for air and the remainder for supplying waste gases for diluting the combustion products in the flues. When using producer gas the regenerators G, H are used for air and gas respectively.
