Abstract

19,146. Defays, V. Aug. 27. Coke ovens.-A regenerative coke oven, with constant direction of flame in the heating-flues, is arranged so as to obviate the use of a reversing-valve exposed to the heat of the gases, and to shorten the travel of the gases. Figs. 1 and 2 show longitudinal sections, and Fig. 5 shows a cross - section of the oven. Sole-flues k each communicate with two regenerators x, y, the alternative passage of the gases thereto being controlled by dampers a, a<1>. The dampers may be connected to levers w, h, operated by a reversing-valve. The supply of air to the heating-flues f is preferably effected by means of parallel conduits p, p<1> extending the entire length of the oven and communicating, respectively, with the regenerators y, x, and also communicating through channels l, l<1>, respectively, with combustion chambers r. The gas-supply conduit d is connected with gas-pipes c and is capped with a refractory wall e having apertures for the gas. When the oven is working, gas passes into the heating-flues from the conduits d and air is supplied from one of the regenerators to one of the conduits p, p<1>, the products of combustion passing away through the flues g and the flues k to the other regenerator. The arrangement of the flues p, p<1> forms the subject-matter of Specification No. 19,146A, A.D. 1906.
