Abstract

107,178. Hurez, E. Jan. 26, 1917. Coke ovens.-In a regenerative oven, the walls of which are formed of flues so arranged that each adjoining pair are traversed simultaneously, one by the gases in intense combustion and the other by the burnt gases, the direction of flow being periodically reversed, the partitions separating the flues are composed of hollow or channelled bricks enclosing a heat-insulating layer of air. Fig. 2 shows a section through the flues parallel to the length of an oven chamber, e and f being one pair of flues and b the hollow partition between them. Fuel gas is introduced at c and d, the latter being a compensating channel, and delivered alternately to the flues e or the flues f, air from one set of regenerators being admitted through passages and ports arranged as shown to the right of the Fig., while the burnt gases escape to the other set of regenerators.
