Abstract

113,696. Carves, Ltd., Simon-, and Brown, J. H. March 24, 1917. Coke ovens. - In a furnace installation with heating-flues between the walls of adjacent ovens, the air and gas for combustion are heated in passages situated between flues for the outgoing products of combustion. In the coke-oven construction shown, pairs of heating-flues are connected in the form of an inverted-U, and are provided with burner ports at the base of one limb, and outlets for the products of combustion at the base of the other, leading by passages F, f to flues b<1>, b<2> in regenerators situated vertically beneath the ovens. The air and gas are heated in the passages H, h of adjacent regenerators, and flow, through sole flues E, e and burner ports E<1>, e<2> to the heating-flues. The regenerator passages are preferably baffled by chequer brickwork. A portion of the air may be mixed with the gas to be heated, and passages 0 beneath the heating- flues may be provided for the supply of rich cokeoven or other gas.
