Abstract

Coke ovens.-In an oven adapted for heating either by rich or poor gas, the connexion between the heating flues and the regenerator chambers is made through two superposed sole flues 5, 9. These flues run the whole length of the soles and are connected on the one hand to two sets of regenerator chambers 8, 12, which are arranged in end-to-end pairs longitudinally beneath the heating-walls, and on the other to alternate flues in the heating-walls on both sides. The regenerator chambers have air inlets 19, and dampers 24 controlling the connexions with the chimney flues, and alternate chambers of both sets have in addition connexions with a poor-gas main controlled by valves 20, and by-passes to the chimney flue controlled by valves 21 operated simultaneously with the gas valves 20. When firing with rich gas, which is supplied through the conduits 13, 14, all the regenerators are used for heating air, and when poor gas is employed alternate regenerators of both sets serve for air, and the remainder for gas.
