432,413. Coke ovens. JACKSON, L. MELLERSH-., 28, Southampton Buildings, Chancery Lane, London.-(Koppers Co. of Delaware; Koppers Building, Pittsburg, U.S.A.) Oct. 20, 1933, No. 37003/34. Divided out of 432,345. [Class 51 (ii)] In a vertically-flued coke oven of the crossover type described in Specification 171,117, [Class 51 (ii)], two end-to-end regenerators 10, 11 are arranged under each heating-wall, and serve for the supply of gas and air respectively during one phase of operation, and simultaneously for exhaust of waste gases in the other phase. As shown in an oven which can be heated either by the combustion of preheated lean gas, or by rich gas supplied through the conduits 21, the regenerators 10 can be connected through reversing valves 13 either to the gas mains 14, the exhaust flues 16, or the atmosphere, while the regenerators 11 can be connected either to the exhaust flue 16<1> or the atmosphere. Each regenerator communicates with the heating-wall flues through a conduit 26 running the full length of the oven. When rich gas is used for firing, both regenerators 10, 11 are utilized for preheating air. Expansion slots are provided between adjacent parts of regenerators as described in Specification 432,345.
