[Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii).] In an horizontal chamber oven for the production of gas and coke the concrete bed b which supports the oven structure is heat insulated from the regenerators by air passages f running parallel to the ovens, and in communication with other passages connected at the ends of the battery to the chimney flue. The air passages may be connected at their inlet ends to a source of air under pressure, or to atmosphere, and may be covered by a layer of insulating brick g.
