Abstract
362,040. Coke ovens. TOTZEK, F., 59, Salkenbergsweg, Stoppenberg, and KOPPERS AKT.-GES., H., 29, Moltkestrasse, both in Essen, Germany. Sept. 17, 1930, No. 27804. Convention date, Nov. 29, 1929. [Class 55 (i).] In the production of semi-coke, the wall between the coal charge and the heating flues is a composite one, the portion next the combustion chamber being silica, and that next the charge being refractory material having a clay binding, and the thickness of the wall produces a temperature gradient resulting in the formation of semi-coke. A suitable thickness for the wall is 180 mm., and the temperature of the walls of the heating flues is 1100‹ C. while that of the coking chamber is 700‹ C. The walls 13 next the flue spaces 11 are of lime-bound silica bricks and the walls 12 next the ovens 10 are of fireclay bricks with a clay binding.
