Abstract

554,362. Coke ovens. KOPPERS CO. April 29, 1942, No. 5781. Convention date, April 25, 1941. Drawings to Specification. [Class 51 (ii)] Coke oven heating-walls are formed of silica bricks or bricks of high siliceous content and mortar joints having a highly siliceous content both containing a temperature alterable crystalline modification of silica and the bricks and mortar are mutually bonded together from the coking-chamber side to the flue side of the heating wall into a monolithic structure by heating the walls to a temperature of at least 2600‹ F. The pyrometric cone equivalents of the bricks and mortar are about 3000‹ F. and 2940‹ F. respectively.
