[Class 51 (ii)] In a downdraught brick &c. kiln of the kind in which the bag wall 5 is extended upwards to follow more or less the contour of the roof 4a, the extended portion 3a is formed to provide a passage 3c which tapers in the direction of flow of the heating-gases as shown, or alternatively is flared in the same direction. The doorways in the bag walls are arched to provide additional strength.
