Abstract
464,128. Brick &c. kilns. DOWNING, G. H., and HOLDING, H. R. July 23, 1936, No. 20854/35. [Class 51 (ii)] In a downdraught kiln in which the gases from fireplaces 2 spaced around the kiln ascend through flues 3 in the outer wall, and then descend through the goods to waste gas passages beneath the floor, secondary air flues 7, having peripheral inlets 4a, are arranged beneath the floor and above the waste gas passages, and lead to upcast passages 4b in communication with the flues 3 leading from the fireplaces. The passages 3 and 4b alternate round the kiln, and communicate through inclined ports 5. Secondary air may be supplied above the fire through branches from the passages 4b, which latter may be closed or partly closed at their upper ends Equalizing passages 10 extending between adjacent uptakes 3, and in communication with the air flues 4b through ports 4t, may be provided,
