424,570. Pottery &c. kilns. UNIVERSAL GRINDING WHEEL CO., Ltd., and COWAN, J. G., Universal Works, Stafford. Aug. 16, 1933, No. 22915. [Class 51 (ii)] In a kiln more particularly of the downdraught type, having a flash or bag wall b between the fireplaces a and the kiln chamber, a controlled part of the gases from the fireplaces passes downwards through flues c formed in the lower part of the wall b, each flue opening directly into the kiln chamber by a single outlet e at the base of the wall. As shown, two sets of dampers g, h, are provided, one set immediately above the entrances d to the flues c, and the other at the top of the wall. The lower part of the wall b is preferably built of hollow bricks.
