Multiple-chamber kilns. - In a continuous, multiple-chamber downdraught kiln, the chambers are arranged in pairs about a common chimney e and the chambers of each pair are separated by a common end wall f. In the two-pair kiln shown, a flue connects the base of one chamber, say a, to the bag i of the next chamber b past a damper 2 and leads direct to the chimney past a damper 1. The corresponding connections for the chamber next in order are h<1>, 4, 3. To prevent direct passage between the chimney flues l and m, the chimney has a mid feather p extending about a sixth of its height.
