520,586. Soaking-pit and like furnaces. SALEM ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and HALDEN, J. W. Oct. 26, 1938, No. 30917. [Class 51 (ii)] The gases from one or more soaking-pit furnaces b are led to a preheating furnace f and dampers are provided for reversing the flow of gases through the preheating furnace. Gases from the furnaces b pass through damper-controlled flues a to a main flue c, which is provided with branches d' leading to each end of the preheating furnace and communicating therewith by damper-controlled inlets g. Dampers h, h<SP>1</SP> are provided at each end of the preheating furnace to reverse the course of the gases therethrough on their way to a stack e.
