Abstract
407,381. Retort furnaces. WOODALLDUCKHAM (1920), Ltd., FINLAYSON, T. C., and NEWTON, W. T., 136, Victoria Street, London. Aug. 12, 1932, No. 22650. [Class 51 (ii).] In a carbonizing-plant an idle retort is kept under heat by passing through its flues waste gases from the flues of retorts which are in operation. In the three retort setting shown the upper ends of the retort flues are connected through ports f with a bus flue a, which in turn is connected through damper-controlled flues g with stack flues d. At their lower ends the retort flues are connected to the stack flues through damper-controlled ducts c. With the damper settings shown, a portion of the waste gases from the flues of the two outer retorts is withdrawn from the flue a, and passed downwards through the flues of the idle middle retort. A modification is described in which the waste gases pass upwards through the flues of the idle retort.
