Abstract
397,653. Regenerators. YARROW, SIR H. E., Scotstoun, Glasgow. July 15, 1932, No. 20102. [Class 51 (i).] In a water-tube boiler furnace the air for combustion is heated in horizontal tubes arranged in two or more groups traversed successively by the air arranged on either side of the boiler. As shown, groups of tubes A<1>, A<2>, B<1>, B2 are arranged in the uptakes on each side of the steam drum C. Air enters at A, B passes to one end of each group of tubes A<1>, B<1> and after passing through them enters the groups of tubes A<2>, B<2>. The gases from the furnace pass externally to the tubes and preferably in counter direction to the air. A damper F controls the passage of gases through the uptakes. The air inlets and outlets from the regenerators may be at the same end or at opposite ends of the boiler according to the number of tube groups employed.
