Abstract

Regenerators.-In a water-tube boiler having alternative damper-controlled passes to the chimney in which are arranged one or more air pre-heaters, dampers are provided for varying the quantity of air traversing the pre-heaters in accordance with the quantity of furnace' gases passing through them, and a damper-controlled by-pass duct is provided to lead air directly to the boiler furnace after traversing only a portion of the pre-heaters. Part of the gases from the combustion space A pass over water tubes B to a front air pre-heater C and thence to an uptake controlled by a damper D, while the rest of the gases traverse water tubes E, superheater tubes F and a back air pre-heater G and pass to an uptake controlled by a damper H. The air supply to the front pre-heater C is controlled by a damper J, passes through a trunk I and emerges from the pre-heater into a trunk K leading to the furnace, while the air supply to the back pre-heater is controlled by a damper L and passes by the trunk M to the trunk K. The dampers J, L are adjusted in accordance with the positions of the dampers D, H or means may be provided whereby movement of the dampers D, H causes an appropriate movement of the dampers J, L. The by-pass duct N is controlled by a damper 0 and leads air through the lower part of the pre-heater G to the duct M and thence to the duct K through the lower part of the pre-heater C.
