Dampers for controlling superheat.-The flow of furnace gases over superheater elements 20 inserted in some of the smoke tubes of a locomotive boiler is controlled by a damper 7 restricting the flow of the gases through the smoke tubes not containing superheater elements. The damper may be operated by hand from the engine cab, or it may be operated automatically by differential pistons 12, 14 connected to the steam chest 6 and the blower pipe 17.
