Superheating by hot gases; dampers for controlling superheaters.-In a boiler heated bv waste gases from a metallurgical furnace or other source, a number of chambers each containing superheating tubes is arranged between the waste gas conduit and the boiler tubes, and means are provided whereby the gases may be directed to flow in series through the chambers before entering the boiler tubes. The hot gases from a conduit c enter the tubes of a boiler a through a chamber b, which may be put into direct communication with the duct by opening a damper i, or in indirect communication therewith, through chambers d, e containing superheaters j, by opening damper6 h fitted in the admission and exit ports of the chambers. Part of the gases after passing through the chambers may be withdrawn through a port controlled by a damper m and used for heating feed-water or for any other purpose.
