Abstract
625,713. Supplying air to furnaces. SWENDSEN, D. L. May 12, 1947, No. 12804. Convention date, July 19, 1946. [Class 51 (i)] In a hot water or low pressure steam boiler of the kind in which the furnace comprises a fuel shaft provided with an air supply, a grate therein to carry the fuel, and a space below the grate provided with a separate air supply and in which spaced water chambers are disposed to extend across the boiler in such a manner as to define sinuously winding passages for the combustion gases passing to the boiler flue, a plurality of tubes 17 carrying secondary air boosted by a fan 16 pass through the boiler flue 7 and communicate with a flue 11 leading to a passage 12 in the first of the water chambers 9 from which under control of the damper 15 the heated air is discharged into the flue space above the grate 2 by ports 14 disposed at different levels in the wall 13.
