Abstract

774,799. Gas turbine plant. LAIDLAW DREW & CO., Ltd., and RUSTON & HORNSBY, Ltd. March 31, 1955 [April 9, 1954], No. 10569/54. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XIII] A steam &c. boiler comprising, for example, a shell 1, Fig. 1, flue 2 and return tubes 3, the latter leading from a chamber 5 at the rear of the boiler to a chimney or discharge duct 6, is heated primarily by the exhaust gases from an internal combustion turbine. The gases are supplied to the boiler in two streams, a main stream direct to the chamber 5 and tubes 3, as shown by the arrows A, and an auxiliary stream which is tapped off the main stream and, after being boosted by a fan 7 located in a duct 8, is led to the front end of the flue 2 for passage therethrough, after being heated by oil fuel injected through a burner 4, to the rear chamber 5, arrows B. The respective gas streams are controlled by dampers 9, 23, and means are fitted for regulating the fuel supply to the burner 4. The boiler may be heated wholly or primarily by the burner 4, in which case provision is made for introducing air, instead or or in addition to the auxiliary gas stream, into the flue 2. The invention is also applicable to a water-tube boiler, Fig. 2 (not shown).
