620,073. Burners. PARSONS & CO., Ltd., C. A., and BOWDEN, A. T. Jan. 2, 1947, No. 172. [Class 75(i)] [Also in Groups XII and XXVI] In a gas turbine plant, using an exhaust gas heat-exchanger, the primary air for the burner in a combustion chamber is taken from the air-compressor delivery in front of the heat-exchanger. The primary air may be passed through a heat-exchanger which, during normal running, is used to cool it and which, for starting may be used to heat it. The combustion chamber comprises a tube E, Fig. 2, within a conduit O. The primary air is led to a burner tube R, Fig. 3, through ports T. The main stream of air enters the conduit O at A and is divided by the nozzle B, part passing outside the tube E and part entering the tube. Of the latter, some enters a sleeve S, Fig. 3, surrounding the burner tube R, through ports P and passes to swirl blades C. The fuel oil supplied to the burner is governed by the amount released to the return line.
