Abstract

1,135,104. Gas turbine engine combustion equipment. ISHIKAWAJIMA-HARIMA JUKOGYO K.K. Oct.4, 1966 [Oct. 5, 1965], No.44215/66. Heading F1L. [Also in Division F4] Combustion equipment for example for a gas turbine engine, comprises a vaporizing surface located within the combustion chamber and defining a fuel vaporizing chamber, inlets being provided for supply of fuel and air into the vaporizing chamber and guide means for directing the mixture of vaporized fuel and air to flow from the vaporizing chamber adjacent the outer surface thereof so that when the mixture is burned, the vaporizing chamber is heated and the liquid fuel therein is vaporized. The combustion equipment shown comprises an annular flame tube 2 disposed within an annular air casing 1 having an annular air inlet 8. The flame tube comprises a pair of annular vaporizing surfaces 3, 3' between which is disposed a dividing member 5 so as to provide two fuel vaporizing chambers which are heated by combustion occurring at the vortex zones 10, 10', Fig. 3. Air flows into the vapourizing chambers between the 9, 9' and fuel is supplied thereto from manifolds 4, 4' having discharge orifices 7, 7'. As the liquid fuel flows through the vaporizing chambers it becomes vaporized and the mixture of air and vaporized fuel is directed by the guides 6, 6' to flow upstream along the outer surfaces of the vaporizing members 3, 3'. Additional air inlets 11, 11' and 12, 12' are provided in the flame tube wall. In a further embodiment Fig. 5 (not shown), six concentric vaporizing members are provided.
