Abstract

838,878. Burners. FRASER, R. P. Aug. 14, 1957 [Aug. 16, 1956]; No. 25102/56. Class 75(1) To ensure stoichiometric combustion at all loads or fuel inputs, a liquid fuel atomizer 1 sprays the fuel into a gasifying chamber 2 to which air is supplied at constant volume and pressure from a casing 3 via holes 2, and the exit of which connects directly via a duct 5 with a burner head 6 to which additional air is supplied from a casing 8 to complete the combustion of the hot gases from the chamber 12, the amount of additional air supplied being controlled by means 13 linked to the liquid fuel supply control; alternatively, whilst maintaining a constant fuel supply, the air is supplied to the gasifying chamber in an insufficient amount for complete combustion and the additional air for complete combustion is supplied to the gas burner. As shown the chamber 2 has a ceramic lining 4 and is shaped as two cones in base to base relation with the atomizer 1 at one apex and the opposite apex providing the exit to duct 5. The duct 5 is of porous ceramic material for cooling diffusion of air therethrough from the casing 3, and terminates in a flange 6 forming the burner head. The flange 6 has a ring of air inlet holes 10 adjacent the duct exit and an outer ring of slanting or tangential air holes or swirl ports 11. The head 6 is housed in a casing 8 flush with the casing 3 and having a cylindrical partition 9 to divide the air supplied thereto into streams directed to the respective holes 10, 11. The air supply to the casing 8 is varied by the means 13 in direct proportion to the fuel supply to the atomizer 1. Specification 827,719 is referred to.
