Abstract
843,712. Burners. BLOOM ENGINEERING CO. Inc. Jan. 23, 1958 [April 11, 1957], No. 2292/58. Class 75(1). A burner construction for use with a flaring port in a furnace comprises a tubular body 18 having a tip portion 19 from which extends a cylindrical wall 21 defining a recess 22 accommodating a refractory block 27, the front of the recess conforming to the size of the rear of the port 16, the wall 21 being spaced from the body 18, means for supply fuel and combustion air to the space 26 so formed and a plurality of discharge passages 25 to provide tangential discharge in front of but adjacent the flaring face 29 of the port. Fuel, which may be gas or atomized oil, is supplied by a pipe 38 leading to exits 39 into the space 26. Air passes from an inlet 31 through a chamber 30 to an annular passage leading to the space 26. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the passages 25 are replaced by separate passages for fuel and air. Alternatively, passages for the fuel may open into the passages 25, air only being supplied to the outer ends of these.
