Abstract

1441750 Burners BRITISH GAS CORP 10 May 1974 [16 Feb 1973] 7745/73 Heading F4T A gas burner for brick kilns has a main flame port 1 and a series of retention flame ports 2 (or a single port) arranged peripherally around the port 1. Separate fuel supply tubes 4, 5 lead into the ports 1, 2 and independently operable valves control the fuel flow so that the gas flow to the main port is widely variable and the gas flow to the flame retention port(s) is maintained constant. A mixture of air and gas may be supplied to the ports 1, 2. The burner may be connected to a manifold divided into air and gas supply chambers each chamber being connected by a valve to each of the tubes 4, 5. In a modification a gas supply tube for an annular flame retention port surrounds the main port gas supply tube and has radial ports opening into a surrounding air supply tube leading into the flame retention port. Baffles may be provided in the air supply tube to cause the air to follow a tortuous path to promote cooling.
