944,445. Combined gas and liquid fuel burners. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURGNURNBERG A.G. Oct. 6, 1961 [Oct. 7, 1960], No. 36105/61. Heading F4T. In a combustion apparatus comprising a liquid fuel nozzle 6 arranged centrally in an air whirler 7 and a gas burner 9 formed by alternate gas and air channels 10, 11, the air exit velocity at the whirler is greater than that at the air channels 10 of the gas burner and a rotary slide valve 21 controls the air supply to the gas burner such that at a minimum setting, an air flow sufficient to cool the gas burner is provided. Air from the liquid fuel burner 5 is supplied through apertures 26 in the valve 21 and ducts 15. Air for the gas burner is supplied through further apertures 25 in the valve 21 and openings 14. The apertures 25 are wider than the spaces between the openings 14 so that the air supply to the gas burner cannot be completely cut-off. Gas is supplied to the outlets 11 from an annular passage 12. The valve 21 is mounted on rollers 22 and is rotated by a gear and pinion 23, 24. An ignition burner 16 in the annular space between the liquid fuel burner 5 and the gas burner 9 is supplied with fuel from a pipe 17, chamber 18, duct 19 and annular space 20. In Fig. 3 (not shown), a plurality of burners, similar to that described above but without the rotary slide valve, one mounted radially symmetrical in the end of a combustion chamber. Part of the air passes directly to the liquid fuel burners and the remainder passes through a mushroom valve to the gas burners.
