Abstract

1,256,951. Liquid fuel burners. DAIDO SANSO K.K. 27 Jan., 1969 [25 Jan., 1968; 23 Feb., 1968; 27 Aug., 1968], No. 4508/69. Heading F4T. In a liquid fuel combustion device an oxygen nozzle and a liquid fuel nozzle are separately provided in the central part of the device and are surrounded by a supply passage for air or steam or a mixture thereof, there being a mixing chamber near the tip of the oxygen nozzle in which mixing chamber a part of the liquid fuel is mixed with oxygen gas. In a first embodiment, Fig. 1, oxygen is supplied through a central passage 51, liquid fuel is supplied through the radially adjacent passage 56, and a steam/air mixture through the radially outer passage 59, these three supply passages being accommodated in a passage 69 for secondary air. Part of the fuel flowing in the liquid fuel nozzle 58 is diverted through the channels 62 into the oxygen nozzle 52, where it mixes with oxygen in the combustion chamber 63 before flowing out of the nozzle. The combustion chamber portion 63, located downstream of the passages 62, may be of larger internal diameter than the remainder of the oxygen passage within the nozzle 52, and the transition between these two nozzle regions may be in the form of a tapering portion. In a further embodiment, an orifice (262, Figs. 7 and 8, not shown) is located within the oxygen nozzle upstream of the passages 263. In the embodiment of Fig. 9, the tip opening 307 of the oxygen nozzle is located downstream of the other nozzle tip openings, and vanes 319 are provided in the steam/air passage 316. Another embodiment (Fig. 10, not shown) has the tip opening of the oxygen nozzle located downstream of the other tip openings and curled radially outwardly, with an orifice (360) located upstream of the fuel supply passages. In the final embodiment, Fig. 11, a first fuel supply passage 551 is located centrally and surrounded by an oxygen passage 553 located within a water jacket 557, which in turn is surrounded by a second liquid fuel supply passage 559 and an air duct 561. The entire assembly is located within a forced air duct 571 which contains vanes 574 and has an outer water jacket 576. All the embodiments may be arranged to supply between 2 and 15% of the theoretical amount of oxygen needed for the complete combustion of the whole of the liquid fuel.
