Abstract
1371116 Burner nozzles GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 14 Nov 1972 [16 Dec 1971] 52537/72 Heading F4T A dual fuel air-atomized nozzle for a gas turbine combustion chamber comprises a nozzle support ring 15 having coaxial flanges and a central opening through which extends a liquid fuel conduit 25 which engages a first flange 29, an annular nozzle cap 31 disposed about the conduit 25 and engaging a second flange 35 to define with the support ring and conduit 25 an annular gas plenum 45, and a retaining ring 59 abutting the nozzle cap and engaging a third flange 61 to define an annular atomizing air plenum 71 with the support ring and nozzle cap. The positioning of the gas plenum between the liquid fuel conduit and the high temperature atomizing air inhibits the breakdown of liquid fuel remaining in the liquid fuel passages when the nozzle is switched from burning liquid fuel to burning gas. Atomizing air is fed to the air plenum 71 through a plurality of inlets 75 and exits through a distribution ring 80 which feeds the air to slots or openings 81 arranged circumferentially on the face of conduit 25 to atomize fuel flowing from nozzle 21. Gas is supplied to the nozzle through passages 49 and passes from the gas plenum 45 through passageways 51 and openings 38 located between selected ones of a plurality of swirler blades 37 arranged circumferentially on the nozzle cap.
