Abstract

650,608. Vapour burners. LUCAS, Ltd. J. Nov. 26, 1948, No. 30698. [Class 75(i)] A supplementary liquid fuel vaporizer for re-heating the motive fluid in an internal combustion prime mover comprises the combination of a vaporizing chamber provided with an outlet or outlets for vapour, means for supporting the chamber in a hot gas conduit and for conveying liquid fuel to said chamber, and a baffle or baffles on the chamber for shielding the effluent vapour. A hollow vaporizing chamber c is supported by radial arms b in a conduit a along which hot gases flow, one of the arms b being hollow for conveying liquid fuel from an inlet d to the chamber c, said arm being perforated on its upstream side to allow hot gases to enter and mix with the fuel. The chamber c may be wholly closed at the upstream end or may be perforated to allow entry of the hot gases. The vapour passes from the chamber c through a perforated nose piece e provided with a baffle f for shielding the effluent vapour. In an alternative construction the tubular feed arm b is not perforated, and a plurality of parallel tubes conduct hot gases through the vaporizing chamber to mix with the fuel air mixture at the outlet end. The latter is closed by a perforated plate and the effluent vapour-air mixture is shielded by a pair of baffles.
