Abstract

715,387. Generating combustion products under pressure. PARSONS & MARINE ENGINEERING TURBINE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATIION. April 9, 1952 [June 12, 1951], No. 13879/51. Class 51 (1) Combustion apparatus for a gas turbine or other prime mover comprises an outer cylindrical member a and an inner partition member extending lengthwise therein, aligned openings being formed in the two members in which flame tubes e are disposed, a cover c and a fuel sprayer k being associated with the end of each flame tube. In Figs. 1. and 4, the outer cylindrical member a is lined with refractory material b, and the partition member p, which is lined with refractory material q, extends obliquely therein forming two D-section passages g, h, the passage q being in communication with the air inlet i and the passage h with the combustion gas outlet j. A valve or shutter n is disposed in the partition p to allow air to pass directly to the passage or mixing chamber h. The flame tubes may be connected by pipes o and that nearest the air inlet may be provided with an igniter. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 6, the partition member is constituted by a cylindrical duct p concentric with the outer member a. Flame tubes e are horizontally disposed on both sides of the apparatus. The air inlet is indicated at i and the gas outlet at j, , a valve or shutter n being disposed at the end of the cylindrical partition to allow some air to pass straight into the mixing chamber.
