Abstract
736,823. Generating combustion products under pressure. LUCAS (INDUSTRIES), Ltd., J. Jan. 18, 1954 [Jan. 19, 1953], No. 1463/53. Class 51 (1). In an annular air-jacketed type of combustion chamber for a jet propulsion engine or gas turbine engine, comprising an annular flame tube a, b mounted between inner and outer casing walls c, d, a number of equi-spaced fuel nozzles f being disposed in the inlet end wall of the flame tube, oppositely-inclined air nozzles k, n are provided in the inner and outer walls of the flame tube between the fuel nozzles, the air nozzles producing a swirling ring of air around each of the fuel jets. The end wall of the flame tube is formed of a number of segmental parts e. Each plate is formed with a frusto-conical dished recess and has air swirling vanes g disposed around the fuel injector f. Air inlets j, m are provided in the inner and outer walls of the flame tube and the air nozzles k, n project through the inlets.
