Abstract

1,219,909. Gas turbine type gas generators. C.A.V. Ltd. Aug.28, 1968 [Sept.22, 1967], No.43231/67. Heading FIG. The invention relates to a combustion gas generator which comprises a combustion chamber, a turbine driven by gases from the combustion chamber, there being means for supplying combustion air, dilution air and fuel to the combustion chamber, such means comprising first and second compressors driven by the turbine, the first compressor supplying an air/fuel mixture to a burner disposed in the combustion chamber, and the second compressor supplying dilution air to the combustion chamber, there being means for controlling the quantity of air supplied by the second compressor. The gas generator shown comprises a shaft 11 on which are mounted a first compressor rotor 16, a second compressor rotor 17 and a turbine rotor 12, the first compressor having an inlet 22 to which fuel/air mixture is supplied, and an outlet 20 through which fuel/air mixture is delivered under pressure to a burner 29 disposed in a flame tube 28 of combustion equipment 24, while the second compressor has an inlet 23 and an outlet 21 through which dilution air is delivered to the combustion equipment, the air entering the flame tube through openings 30. Combustion gases from the combustion equipment are directed on to the turbine 12 the exhaust gases from which are passed to a point of use. A carburettor 33 is provided in the inlet line to the compressor 16. A throttle 35 is provided in the inlet line to the dilution air compressor 17, the throttle being controlled by a device 36 responsive to the pressure at the outlet of the first compressor 16.
