Abstract
356,613. Compound steam boilers. SCHMIDT'SCHE HEISSDAMPF-GES., 2, Rolandstrasse, Wilhelmsh÷he, Cassel, Germany. Dec. 31, 1930, No. 39346. Convention date, Jan. 2. [Classes 123 (ii) and 123 (iii).] In a high- and low-pressure marine boiler having a flue-tube low-pressure section 13, the return chamber 12 through which the gases from the furnace 10 of the high-pressure section pass on their way to the low-pressure section is fitted with auxiliary firing means such as burners 26, which are used when an increase in the generation in the low-pressure steam is desired, and when the highpressure section and its furnace 10 are shut down for repairs, communication between the furnace and the return chamber being then closed by a damper 31. Steam is generated indirectly in the drum 1 of the high-pressure boiler by the circulation of a heat carrier through tubes around the walls of the furnace 10 and through pipe coils 5 in the drum. The high-pressure steam is superheated in tube elements 17 arranged in the return chamber, portions 24 of the elements forming a closed wall at one side of the auxiliary combustion chamber. The low-pressure steam main 36 is connected with the inlet and outlet pipes 19, 21 of the high-pressure steam superheater by pipes 43, 47 provided with shut-off valves 42, 46, so that when the high-pressure boiler section is shut down, the valves 42, 46 may be opened to allow lowpressure steam to flow from the main 36 through the high-pressure superheater. The low-pressure steam thus flowing to the high-pressure superheater may be drawn from the outlet pipe 35 of the lowpressure superheater 32, or, by opening a valve 39 in a branch 40, directly from the low-pressure boiler section.
