Abstract
231,142. Cross, W. M. March 19, 1924, [Convention date]. Water-tube boilers; tubes, water.-Water is passed in relatively restricted streams through a heated conduit, and then through a pressure controlled communication into a vaporizing chamber outside the heating chamber, and means are placed at varying intervals along the conduit for uniformly absorbing and transmitting the heat of the heating gases. Water is supplied by a pump 22 to the bottom of a pipe coil 1 placed in a heating chamber 4 through which gases flow from a combustion chamber 3. The heated water passes through a pressure reducing valve 10 to a vaporizing chamber 9. The steam generated in the chamber passes through a separator 12 fitted with baffles 13. The pipe coil is provided with heat-absorbing discs 23, which are more closely spaced at the lower part of the coil than at the upper part. The feed-water is heated in a chamber 18 containing a coil through which unvaporized water is taken off from the vaporizing chamber. The feedwater may be heated in a pipe coil placed in the heating chamber.
