Abstract
283,205. La Mont Corporation, (Assignees of La Mont, W. D.). Jan. 7, 1927, [Convention date]. Compotind boilers; instantaneous generators.- The feed supply to a staeam boiler is heated in an economizer in which a positive independent water circulation is maintained. Feedwater is circulated through a film-tube heater 13, Fig. 1, of the kind described in Specifications 171,735 and 252,314 by a pump 14, and the heated water is supplied to the film-tube boiler 3 through a pipe 21 fitted with supply control valve 22 operated in accordance with the water level in the lower header 9 of the boiler. The supply of water to the heater is controlled by a valve 24 operated in accordance with the water level in the lower header 19 of the heater. Steam generated in the heater is led off through a pipe 16 into the main steam pipe 6. The heated water may flow from the heater into a purifier 25, Fig. 2, to which the fresh feed is supplied through a pipe 23. The pressure in the heater is much lower than the boiler pressure, a throttle valve 26 being fitted in the pump delivery pipe 15. The supply valves 22, 24, are both controlled in accordance with the water level in the lower header 9 of the boiler. The heater may be separately fired or it may be heated by waste gases from a water gas plant or other source. The heater may be arranged in the uptake of or water-tube boiler of the vertical or horizontal tube type, the supply of water from the heater circuit to the boiler being controlled in accordance with the boiler water level. A heater may be arranged in the common uptake of two indepdendently fired water-tube boilers, the feed supply from the heater to each boiler being controlled separately in accordance with the level in the boilers. Feedwater heated in a heater 150, Fig. 7, traversed by smoke-tubes 152 is supplied to a water-tube boiler 130 and to steam generating tubes 141 around the sides of the combustion chamber. The tubes 141 are connected to upper and lower headers 135, 139. A circulation pump 143 takes water from the lower headers and distributes it to the upper headers through a branched pipe 145. Water supplied to the upper part of the heater by the circulation pump 159, trickles down over the outer surfaces of the smoke-tubes and collects in the bottom of the heater. Steam generated in the heater may be led into the main steam pipe 163. In another modification, Fig. 8, (not shown) the water from the lower header of a film tube heater passes into a separator from which it passes into a chamber in which the water is purified and heated by direct contact with steam tapped from a turbine. The supply to the boiler is taken from the separator. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), a boiler having inclined tubes connected to upper and lower drums serves as a heater from which water is supplied to another water-tube boiler. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
